| Name: | Raven |
|---|
Character: Raven
Series: Teen Titans (Animated)
Version: Mid-Season Five
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Asexual
Appearance: Raven has violet hair that reaches to her neck, light grey skin, violet eyes, and a red jewel on the middle of her forehead. She usually wears a dark blue, hooded cape and a black leotard that covers almost all of her upper body. A red jewel can be seen on the back of both her hands, along with a dark blue wristband. Around her waist is a chain belt, and for footwear, she wears dark blue boots.
When transformed into "Red Raven", her eyes become red and there are a total of four of them. She also has many black tendrils coming from the bottom of her cloak.
Personality: Because of her demonic heritage and the dangerous nature of her powers, Raven has to keep a constant restraint on her emotions. Suppressing them for as long as she can remember, and by performing daily meditation exercises, Raven goes to great lengths to make sure that she always remains calm and in control of herself. With these things to consider, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody that she prefers to be alone. She believes that keeping others out and pushing them away is really for their own protection.
Having an unusual love for horror, haunted houses, and the obscure, Raven is straightforward, moody, sarcastic, slightly gothic, and has a dry sense of humor. Not a stranger to being misunderstood, she's often being called 'creepy' and 'weird'. Despite this, Raven has shown time and time again that she does care deeply for her friends. As a Teen Titan and a hero, she's always ready to fight against those who would threaten the peace and tranquility she's so fond of.
It takes a lot for Raven to actually trust someone enough to be their friend. In fact, if there's anything Raven doesn't forgive, it's betrayal. She doesn't handle it well and it always seems to do serious emotional damage for her. And just like everybody else, Raven also has her dark side. Though rarely manifested, it emerges when her anger becomes too much for her to supress. This "Red Raven" is the embodiment of all the evil inside of her, and as such, likes to torture and traumatize her victims.
Another less obvious aspect in Raven's behavior is her tendency to be fatalistic. If the situation seems hopeless with no chance of success, then Raven will accept it without putting up much of a fight, despite what others around her might be doing. Fortunately, past events with her friends have made her become more hopeful in this aspect and to not give up so easily.
Abilities/Weaponry: Obtaining her powers from her father, Raven has an affinity for magic and spell casting. She is able to sense things (such as the presence of others) and is capable of telepathy and flight.
Her great psychokinetic abilities are always manifested in the form of "dark energy". Useful in both offense and defense, she can use it to levitate and manipulate all kinds of inanimate objects, create barriers of varying size, project concussive blasts, and form simple shapes like grappling hands, small platforms, and razor sharp blades. Raven's dark energy also lets her create portals to phase through solid floors and walls, as well as allowing her to teleport to locations inaccessible by flying or going on foot.
Next, Raven is capable of creating a type of "astral body" or "soul-self". It normally takes the form of either her human shape or a giant raven. Through the use of her soul-self, Raven can visit other dimensions, and project her consciousness into another person's mind for various purposes. Some are therapeutic, such as to aid in her own meditation or to help calm down an agitated ally. While others are more offensive, like rendering her enemy unconscious, or disorienting and scaring them. When using her soul-self to enter another person's mind, Raven is able to see what they see, and feel what they feel.
When "Red Raven" is present, her powers become unruly and her body's appearance changes to a variety of terrifying forms. She also has a number of other ((unspecified)) spells, such as being able to heal small & moderate wounds. Further regarding injuries, Raven's body is able to rapidly heal itself after she enters a deep trance.
Aside from English, Raven is able to speak/read English, German, Latin, Romanian, Ancient Sumerian, and Sanskrit. Finally, her time with Robin and the Titans have given her a degree of technological competence and some martial art skills.
Weaknesses: Despite being half-demon, Raven isn't really weak or vulnerable to holy objects or spells of the same nature. Instead, her biggest weakness are the very emotions she represses. The more she feels, the more uncontrollable energy is released. In extreme cases, Raven's anger will cause her to turn into "Red Raven". While in this state, she will snap at and possibly attack anybody unlucky enough to be nearby. Though capable of releasing tremendous amounts of energy, "Red Raven" doesn't seem capable of using her powers due to her blind rage.
History: Born in the alternate dimension of Azarath, Raven is the daughter of Arella and the demon, Trigon.
Her fate was already decided the moment she came into the world. She was to become the portal that would bring Trigon to Earth and cause the planet's destruction. Having known from the very beginning, Raven refused to accept this and kept it a secret from everybody else.
She first met Robin and the others during an incident that involved Starfire and her captor, Trogaar. Once Starfire was freed and Trogarr defeated, Raven joined Robin, Starfire, Beast Boy and Cyborg to form the Teen Titans. At first, she remained quiet and distant. But little by little, Raven started to trust her new teammates and became close friends with each of them. Together, they fought many difficult foes and opponents, the worst of which was Slade. He met his end though after Terra sent him plunging into pit of lava. Or so everybody thought...
Sometime after, Raven managed to find an old book that told the story about a young wizard named Rorek and how he fought against the dread dragon Malchior. As it turned out however, the story was more than that. Imprisoned in the book, Rorek spoke to Raven and comforted her by claiming that he was the one who could really understand her. Believing his words, Raven helped Rorek in breaking the curse that bound him to the book by allowing him to teach her everything he knew regarding spells and incantations. Those events culminated with Raven finally being able to break the curse thanks to Rorek's guidance.
Unfortunately, Rorek had been using her from the start. He was actually Malchior and had switched the names in the book so that he could succeed in deceiving her. Malchior’s attack on Titan’s Tower and newfound liberty were short-lived though, as Raven was able to seal him in the book once again and chose to never use any of the powers she learned from him.
Though Malchior's "betrayal" affected her greatly, it would pale in comparison to what would happen next: the prophecy that was foretold on Raven was about to become truth.
On her 16th birthday, Slade somehow managed to come back. Not only that, but he could use the element of fire, had the ability to fly, had control over Trigon's minions, and was immune to effects of Raven involuntarily freezing time. Though she tried to escape from him, Slade was successful in placing several markings on Raven's body that would serve as a type of "message".
Robin and the others eventually learned the truth, and tried their hardest to stop the prophecy from happening. All of their efforts where in vain though... During an assault on Titan's Tower, Slade spared the Titan's lives after Raven gave herself up to him. Ultimately becoming the portal she was meant to be and bringing the arrival of Trigon and end of all life on Earth.
With the prophecy fulfilled, all of the Titans believed that Raven was no more. But that wasn't true. After being double-crossed by Trigon, it was Slade who told Robin that a small part of her still remained on Earth. The two formed an uneasy alliance and went off to search her. Eventually, Robin was able to find Raven, but had been turned into a helpless child. The two of them returned to the surface and Raven found out that she was still able to use her powers. Reverting back to her teenage body, Raven continuously attacked Trigon and was able to finally banish him from Earth.
